BIRTH AND POSTPARTUM DOULA

JOHANNA BRINGS A CALM, REASSURING AND GOOD-HUMORED PRESENCE TO HER WORK AS BIRTH AND POSTPARTUM DOULA. SHE BELIEVES THERE IS NO ONE RIGHT WAY TO DO BIRTH OR PARENTHOOD, BUT THERE IS A RIGHT WAY FOR EACH FAMILY. SHE LOVES HELPING PEOPLE DISCOVER WHAT THIS IS FOR THEM.

Originally from New York, Johanna moved to Maine after a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, when she decided she would relocate to her favorite state of the 15 she had walked through. Nothing teaches you about the importance of balancing preparation and planning with flexibility and adaptability in unforeseen circumstances quite like walking from Georgia to Maine.

Additionally, Johanna has a masters degree in social work and has worked as a child and family therapist for the last 5 years. This work has fostered in her a passion for helping families navigate through the beautiful and challenging transitions of birth and early parenthood to develop into the people and parents they wish to be.

As a former EMT and crisis worker, Johanna has a well-developed and tested skill at remaining calm and solution-oriented in moments of chaos and great intensity--whether the chaos is caused by a tiny tyrannical newborn, a well intentioned, but anxious family member, or a true medical emergency. Johanna is adept and experienced at helping you assess situations and calm the waters to let you right the ship.
